FAQs
What is the RACDGNY?
The Royal and Ancient Club of Dishonorable Golfers – New York Metro Chapter (RACDGNY) is a semi-esteemed (but mostly self-deprecating) society of golfers who love the game, respect its history, and occasionally three-putt with honor.
We roam the New York tri-state area in search of good golf, whole-hearted competition, and great company. Our annual calendar includes events, season-long competitions, and plenty of opportunities to win bragging rights, occasionally a trophy and some cash prizes, NIT spots, but oftentimes absolutely nothing.
Oh, and we’re a No Laying Up Roost—so if you’re familiar with The Nest and the NLU crew, you know we take our golf seriously, but never too seriously. Our Roost Major even offers up two Nest Invitational Tournament (NIT) qualifying spots for those who can actually make putts under pressure.
Most of our banter, trash talk, and event planning happens on Discord. There are two levels of Discord access:
Non-Members get access to a limited number of Discord channels: #General, #Event-Info, #Let’s-Go-Launch-Em (where you can find a game), #Get-Help, and #Feedback-and-Suggestions.
Paid Members get full access to every Discord channel, as well as exclusive member merch and priority event registration.
Want in? Go here to the Finy My Roost form and select "RACDGNY" in the dropdown.
What’s Included in a RACDGNY Membership?
RACDGNY membership is $30 dollars a year, and you get:
First dibs on event sign-ups, with the Roost Major being the only exception
Full access to all of the Discord channels
Member-exclusive merch
One important note: your Discord access isn’t automatic. A committee member has to manually grant it, which means there could be a slight delay (because we have day jobs and none of us oversee this Roost full-time). If you're feeling impatient, tag @Competition Committee in the #Get-Help channel, and we’ll get you sorted.
How Do I Sign Up for Events?
Head to the event page. When registration opens, we announce it in the #Event-Information channel.
If you’re a member, you get early access in the #Members-Chat channel.
If you’re not a member, you might get in… if there’s room. Except for The Shepherd Open—that one is open to all.
What If an Event is Full?
You can still sign up, and you’ll be placed on a waitlist in first-come, first-served order. If someone drops out, you're in.
How Do I Qualify for the Roost Regional Team?
We have four spots on the RACDGNY Roost Regional Team, and there are two ways to earn one:
Win the Shepherd Open. If you conquer the field, you’re in.
Finish in the top three of the Order of Merit (OoM) by the end of June. If you’re consistently good (or just avoid disaster better than everyone else), you will qualify for the team.
More details on the OoM can be found here.
How Do I Qualify for the NIT?
There are five NIT spots available via the RACDGNY Roost:
Win the Shepherd Open. Boom, you’re in. If the winner declines, we go down the leaderboard.
Finish second at the Shepherd Open. If there's a tie, we’ll settle it with a playoff (format TBD). If second place doesn’t want the spot, we move down the list.
Be on the winning Roost Club Championship team. Three spots are reserved for the champions. (the Shepherd Open winner already gets one).
