More about Keney Park Golf Course:

Located in Hartford’s expansive Keney Park and featuring template holes on tilt, Keney Park Golf Course is a track steeped in history. The front nine was designed by renowned golf course architect Devereux Emmet and built in 1927. Emmet designed over 150 courses in his career, including Congressional, and local stalwarts Country Club of Farmington and Hartford Golf Club. The back nine was added in 1931 and designed by City of Hartford engineer Jack Ross. Highlights of the course include a bendy double-dogleg par 5, a diagonal Biarritz green, a unique rendition of the Oakmont church pew bunkers, a reverse Road Hole that runs up against the clubhouse, a drivable par 4 that borders a cemetery, and a Punch Bowl par 3 finisher. The wild greens, sloping contours, and twisty corridors ensure it’s always a fun round, no matter your score.

In 2013, after years of leasing the course to private, for-profit management firms, the city moved operational ownership back to City Hall under the supervision and direction of the Department of Public Works, and undertook a $6 million hybrid renovation-restoration project overseen by Dusenberry Design, completed in 2016. The city also partnered with the Connecticut Section PGA and KNOX, Inc., a local nonprofit with a horticultural based job training program for city residents, which provided graduates opportunities for maintenance crew positions. This is truly community and muni golf at its finest!
